Password Protected Directories
What are password-protected directories? What do they imply for your Internet site?
A password-protected directory or area is a folder that could be accessed only when a username and a password are typed in, so no unauthorized people can check out its content. This option can be used for the main folder of a specific Internet site or only for a certain subfolder based upon your needs. For instance, if you are building a new site and you do not want people to see it before it is ready, you might want to prohibit the access to it altogether, while if you need only some individuals to be able to access particular files, you'll be able to password-protect only a certain folder, while the remaining portion of the site may be seen by anyone. Regardless, a “403 Forbidden” error page will appear if the login details the visitor enters aren't accurate. Even a direct link to a file will not work provided any folder above it is password-protected.
Password Protected Directories in Cloud Hosting
Setting up a password-protected area will take no more than a couple of mouse clicks and a few seconds if you host your websites within a cloud hosting account with our company. You shall not have to do anything challenging - you will have to choose a domain/subdomain, to pick which folder under it should be secured, and then to type the login name and password which will be used to access that folder. In case a number of individuals need their own login credentials, there will not be a problem to create several different usernames with access to the very same folder. All protected folders shall appear with a padlock icon within the File Manager section, so you shall always know where this option is active. If you wish to disable the security feature for any folder, you can disable it from the same section of the Control Panel where you have enabled it.
