Hotlinking Protection
What's hotlink protection and exactly how does it work? When do you need such?
Hotlinking is a largely accepted Internet term for linking to another website’s images. Quite simply, if you build an Internet site, somebody else may want to use the images that you have and rather than downloading them from your site and then uploading them to their Internet site, they can simply put links to your Internet site. In this way, each time a visitor opens their Internet site, the images shall be loaded from your account, hence stealing from your own monthly traffic quota, in addition to the copyright problems that could arise or that someone can be trying to trick people into thinking that they are actually on your Internet site. In rare instances, documents and other kinds of files could also be linked in the exact same way. To prevent this from happening and to avoid this sort of situations, you may permit hotlink protection for your Internet site.
Hotlinking Protection in Cloud Hosting
There's a method for preventing the hotlinking of your images via an .htaccess file within the website’s root directory, but if you are not very tech-savvy, we also give you a very user-friendly tool that shall permit you to activate the protection with a couple of mouse clicks and without typing any code. The tool could be accessed through the Hepsia CP, offered with all our cloud hosting and the only two things that you'll need to select are a domain/subdomain from a drop-down menu and if the protection has to be activated for the main site folder or for some subfolder. Our system shall do the rest, so you won't need to do anything else manually on your end. If you decide to turn off the hotlink protection option at one point, you will just have to come back to the same section, to mark the checkbox beside it and to press the Delete button.
